Diet pills for obesity

Diet pills for obesity (prescription, over-the-counter supplements, herbs, medicines, etc.) should be taken only under the supervision of a physician as they can be ineffective or can even have serious side effects.

The diet pills for obesity should be an integral part of an overall weight loss program that includes diet, exercise, and psychological and lifestyle supportive counseling.

Diet pills for obesity function through various mechanisms like appetite suppression and enhancing the body's metabolism.

Prescription diet pills for obesity:

1) Dexfenfluramine (Redux) and Fenfluramine (Pondimin) prevent the body from absorbing dopamine and norepinephrine, resulting in the sensation of being energized, while reducing the craving for sugar. Side effects include heart problems (damage to the valves of the heart) and lung problems (i.e., pulmonary hypertension).

2) Sibutramine (Meridia) works by keeping brain chemicals (neurotransmitters), such as serotonin and norepinephrine in balance and increasing metabolism, resulting in significant weight loss. Sibutramine also causes an increase in energy levels and a feeling of fullness. Side effects of this class of diet pills for obesity include dry mouth, insomnia, hypertension, and arrhythmias.

3) Orlistat (Xenical, 120 mg capsule three times a day ) is related to Olestra, a fat substitute. This diet pill for obesity acts by slowing down the production of lipase, an enzyme in the stomach that breaks down fat, thus preventing the absorption of fat. Side effects include gastrointestinal problems (gas, oily loose stools, and cramping) and may interfere with absorption of vitamins A, D, and E, so vitamin supplements are recommended.

Over- the-counter supplements (diet pills for obesity):

Orlistat (60 mg capsules) marketed under the brand name Alli™ has been approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as the weight-loss product for over-the-counter (OTC) use in the United States. Side effects include diarrhea, anal leakage, flatulence and bowel pain. It is advised to take a multivitamin at bedtime with Alli because it reduces the absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and beta carotene. This diet pill for obesity was originally approved for prescription in 1999 and will retain prescription status at higher doses for the medical treatment of obesity.

Herbal diet pills for obesity:

1) Phen-Fen, Phen-Cal, or PhenTrim, which contain ephedrine and can increase heart rate and blood pressure to dangerous levels, possibly leading to psychotic behavior, seizure, heart attack, stroke, and death.

2) Morslim-Z Slimming capsules

3) Obeslim Dietary Supplement

Diet pills for obesity should not be considered as a miracle pill and should not replace diet and exercise. You should consult your doctor before using any type of diet pills for obesity.
